Vessel in form of female (?) figure

Iran

Not on view

This ceramic vessel was one of two effigies excavated at Chekka Sabz in Luristan. Likely a religious offering, the figure stands with hands clasped in a posture of worship or respect. This work, part of a small corpus of vessels in human form, provides a rare indication of how people in Iron Age Luristan, a poorly understood region of Iran, conceived of the body. Note: G2.
